Roxette

Roxette is a Swedish duo that is now cosidered to be one of the most successful ones in Europe and even the world. Their music is claimed to be retro since the greatest period of the band was from the 1980s till the begginig and the 1990s releasing three fascinating albums that were rated in the top charts in the world -the UK and the US charts for rock and pop music.

The members, Per Gissele and Marie Fredriksson, met in Hamstad, Sweden in the late 1970s but the duo started performing independantly from 1986 with their first solo albums. Prior to that, their singles were released in English and Swedish for different compilations and were quite famous among the pop fans especially since that was the strongest period for the pop music. In 1986 they released their album Pearls of Passion. It became a total hit in Sweden and the songs were quickly translated into several languages -primarily English. The albums enjoyed the love of the fans in Canada, Italy, Japan and the US where special cover artwork and bespoke packaging boxes transformed the original cover according to the trends in those countries.

Undoubtedly, the duo’s greatest success was the album “It must have been love”that was rated among the best albums ever in relation to sales and love of the fans. It became #1 album in the US from the period of his release (1987) and became one of the top productions in the UK and Europe as a whole. The band also made the soundtrack for the movie Pretty Woman with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts thus gaining even more success in the upcoming years.

The music of the band is quite cheerful and remarkable -their pop and rock mixed and unique style made them one of the most successful duos of all times.
